The Justice Party held a meeting with the Green Party of the United States on the 5th and confirmed that the marine discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is a serious issue that threatens the health of citizens around the world not only in Korea but also as an international environmental problem. The two parties shared the opinion that political reform is essential to prevent degenerative democracy caused by the evils of the two-party system, and emphasized solidarity between the progressive parties of the two countries.
Wi Seon-hee, a spokesperson for the Justice Party, said on the day, “The US Green Party and the Justice Party, who visited Korea to attend the World Green Party General Assembly, confirmed through a meeting today that the discharge of contaminated water in Fukushima is a serious issue that threatens the health of citizens around the world not only in Korea but also as an international environmental problem.” “We have made up our mind to stop the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima, which threatens the world’s oceans and soils, which are the foundation of life, and to put strong pressure on the Japanese government,” he said. Spokesperson Wie continued, “We shared the opinion that political reform is essential to prevent regressive democracy caused by the evils of the two-party system.” Both parties agreed that a runoff voting system and a mature proportional representation system are essential for the realization of a multi-party system.”
The meeting was attended by key figures within the US Green Party, including Howie Hawkins, who served as the 2020 Green Party presidential candidate, and co-chairman of the International Committee Austin Bashor.
Previously, Justice Party representative Lee Jeong-mi said in a greeting, “Amid the indifference of the two major parties in Korea and the United States, interest in the climate crisis is being pushed to the back.” “The Justice Party will be the strongest shield to protect the vulnerable class against the climate crisis.” Hawkins responded by saying, “The US Green Party hopes to unite with all progressive parties around the world through this event.”
The Justice Party is in a situation where it is surrounded by rumors of crisis along with the decline in approval ratings. Realmeter commissioned Media Tribune to survey 2009 voters over the age of 18 nationwide for four days from the 30th of last month to the 2nd of this month.
Accordingly, the Justice Party is setting the basic direction for the re-creation party with the goal of overcoming the crisis through innovative re-creation. Currently, the Justice Party plans to finalize the basic direction by one week before the National Committee on the 24th through revision and supplementation based on the proposal of CEO Lee Jung-mi. If a proposal and resolution are made at the national committee, the final decision will be made at the delegate meeting held in September.
