Event Details

Green Party Presidential hopeful, Howie Hawkins, will be in Flint, Michigan on March 5, 2019.

Mr. Hawkins is one of the founding members of the Green Party of the United States.  As the Green Party’s candidate for governor of New York in 2010, 2014, and 2018, he received enough votes to qualify the Green Party for a ballot line for the next four years. In 2014, he received 5 percent of the vote, the most for an independent progressive party candidate in New York for governor in nearly a century.  In his 2010 run for governor, he was the first person in the U.S. to run for office on a Green New Deal platform.

Mr. Hawkins will address the ongoing water crisis that has devastated the lives of Flint’s Black community.  Hawkins says:

“Six years after the Flint water crisis began, the federal government has still not brought in the resources needed to fully fix the problem. The whole process, from the state takeover of the city and changing the water intake to the Flint River to the delayed response of local, state, and federal government reeks of racism and corruption. A responsible federal government would intervene swiftly and forcefully to restore clean water to the people of Flint. But the people in power now can’t even do the basics. We need to clean house and elect new leaders.”
