Today, the U.S. Supreme Court begins hearing arguments on whether Title VII’s ban on workplace sex discrimination protects LGBTQ people from discrimination.  Of particular focus is the case of a transgender funeral home worker who was fired because she is transgender.  Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.

LGBTQIA people have no comprehensive, federal protections. H.R. 5, The Equality Act, was introduced in March 2019 and passed the house in May. The Equality Act simply stated adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

If the Supreme Court rules against the LGBTQIA community it is another clear sign that this Supreme Court is filled with callous bigots and that no group suffering from invidious discrimination can count on this court to uphold their rights and freedoms.

The foundation of the Howie Hawkins 2020 campaign is its Ecosocialist Green New Deal. The Ecosocialist Green New Deal is fully inclusive of everyone. No exceptions. Freedom and social justice for LGBTQIA individuals will come with the liberation of all people.
